Voices in my head
I'm getting started with Ursula LeGuin's Voices, narrated by Melanie Martinez. I'm not very far into the novel (45 minutes and two chapters in) -- but it's looking a little grim. Now LeGuin is a great writer, but the descriptive, internal, thoughtful novel she writes can make for impatient listening. I'm sounding like my young readers -- if it doesn't grab me on the first page, I'm not going any further. Slowly she's building the back story (a savagely conquered society building a secret library), but it's the kind of listening that really requires focus. It would be good for a knitting project, or a walk ... but I'm running out of time for that kind of non-end-product listening.
